Q: What genres do you work on?

A: My niche is all subgenres of romance, but I have also worked on horror, YA, NA, urban fantasy, and Amish fiction.

Q: Do you do a free sample?

A: Yep! I offer a free sample chapter.

Q: Do you work on books in UK English?

A: Sure do!

Q: What format do you need the file to be in?

A: I prefer Microsoft Word documents but will work in Google docs if that’s your preference.

Q: Which style guide do you use?

A: The Chicago Manual of Style 18th edition and Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary.

Q: At what point in the writing process do I send you the manuscript?

A: The four stages of editing (for self-publishing) are: developmental/content, line edit, copyedit, and proofread. As I only do copyediting and proofreading, the MS comes to me after it has been developmentally edited and has been through beta readers as well as self-edits.

Q: What’s the difference between a line edit and a copyedit?

A: Line edits and copyedits are often interchanged but the truth is that they are separate things. A line edit comes before a copyedit and it goes through tone, flow, consistency, and style of the sentences. It tightens up the language so there’s a natural progression in the voice. Copyediting, which is what I do, is mechanical in nature. Copyediting focuses on language errors, punctuation, spelling, adherence to a specific style guide (Chicago Manual of Style in my case), and mentions ambiguous language just to name a few. However, sometimes a copyedit can overlap a line edit if there is a structural mistake, but that is not the norm.
